Estoy realmente encantado de estar en el Centro Gandhi exactamente un
año después de su inauguración. Nuestra presencia de hoy se enmarca también
en la interacción periódica que mantenemos con Mahatma Gandhi Venezuela y el
Centro Gandhi, quienes están comprometidos con la difusión de las enseñanzas y
la filosofía de Mahatma Gandhi, cuyo 153º aniversario de nacimiento celebramos
hoy.
Me gustaría agradecer especialmente a la Sra. Verónica Rodríguez de
Guruceaga, Presidenta de Mahatma Gandhi Venezuela por sus esfuerzos en la
coordinación de las actividades del Centro Gandhi. La Embajada de la India en
Caracas se ha asociado con Mahatma Gandhi Venezuela en sus diversas
actividades para difundir la filosofía de Mahatma Gandhi. El 2 de octubre de
2020, no lejos de este lugar, inauguramos la primera estatua de Mahatma Gandhi
en Venezuela que fue obsequiada por el Gobierno de la India a Mahatma Gandhi
Venezuela. Hoy también iniciamos nuestras actividades con ofrendas florales en
la estatua.
Amigos, Mahatma Gandhi no sólo es el Padre de mi Nación, sino también
uno de los líderes mundiales más respetados de la historia. Incluso muchas
décadas después de que nos dejara, su filosofía y sus enseñanzas siguen siendo
relevantes para que no sólo reflexionemos, sino para que también las
practiquemos.
Tuvimos la oportunidad de repasar las diversas actividades del Centro
Gandhi y hoy interactuaremos con algunos de los que han obtenido un diploma
del Centro Gandhi. Una discusión sobre los diversos aspectos de la filosofía de
Gandhiji es siempre refrescante y refuerza los grandes valores de la existencia
humana, es decir, la paz y la armonía.
La filosofía de Gandhiji estaba profundamente arraigada en el ethos
cultural de la India. Sus ideales eran progresistas y con visión de futuro y
sentaron las bases para la construcción de un sistema político fuerte y
verdaderamente democrático para el país que salía de siglos de colonialismo. Si
bien es sabido que el colonialismo provocó una destrucción sin precedentes de
nuestros recursos económicos, también hay que recordar que no consiguió
suprimir nuestra determinación de tener una sociedad que se convirtiera en un
ideal para muchos países del mundo. Tal vez más que nadie, el Padre de mi
Nación, Mahatma Gandhi, sentó las bases de la coexistencia pacífica de varias
personas de diversos credos, que se convirtió en símbolo de lo que llamamos
“Unidad en la Diversidad”.
Amigos, nos anima mucho el hecho de que la filosofía de Mahatma Gandhi genere
interés entre todas las generaciones, ya que está intrínsecamente estructurada
para conectar con el más universal de todos los ideales, es decir, la Unidad y la
Hermandad de toda la humanidad.
La contribución de Gandhiji a la filosofía de la noviolencia o Ahimsa es bien
conocida junto con su énfasis en una sociedad igualitaria basada en la igualdad de
género. También se preocupó mucho por el desarrollo de la capacidad del país y
puso especial énfasis en la filosofía de la autosuficiencia. Aunque estamos
celebrando el Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav y hemos entrado en la fase del Amrit Kal,
la resonancia continua de ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ -la India autosuficiente- está
profundamente arraigada en la filosofía de Gandhiji. India no sólo ha utilizado sus
políticas en diversos campos en beneficio de su pueblo, sino también del mundo
entero. Durante la pandemia del Covid, la India se convirtió en un brillante
ejemplo de lo que un país debe hacer por sus hermanos y hermanas de todo el
mundo. Bajo el liderazgo visionario del Honorable Primer Ministro Shri Narendra
Modi, el Gobierno de la India emprendió tal vez el mayor ejercicio de contribución
a la salud pública mundial al suministrar vacunas contra el Covid en todo el
mundo como parte de ‘Vaccine Maitri’ también medicamentos relacionados
con el Covid durante las diversas fases de la pandemia del Covid.
Amigos, hoy es un día de celebraciones. También es un día de reflexión
sobre los valores fundamentales de la filosofía de Gandhiji. Además, también es
un día para volver a dedicarnos a perseguir los ideales de paz y armonía por los
qué Mahatma Gandhi dio toda su vida.
Me gustaría agradecer una vez más a Mahatma Gandhi Venezuela y al Centro Gandhi por la organización del evento de hoy y a todos los participantes por su entusiasta participación, que ha hecho de este día especial es un día para recordar.”

Remarks of Ambassador of India to Venezuela H.E. Mr. Abhishek Singh on the
occasion of 153rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at ‘Centro Gandhi’ in
Caracas on 2nd October 2022
I am indeed delighted to be at the Centro Gandhi exactly a year after its
inauguration. Our presence today is also a part of the regular interaction that we have with
Mahatma Gandhi Venezuela and Centro Gandhi who are committed to spreading the
teachings and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, whose 153rd birth anniversary we are
celebrating today.
I would like to specially thank Mrs. Veronica Rodriguez de Guruceaga, President of
Mahatma Gandhi Venezuela for her efforts in coordinating the activities of Centro
Gandhi. Embassy of India, Caracas has partnered with Mahatma Gandhi Venezuela in its
various activities to spread the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. On October 2, 2020, not
far from this place, we inaugurated the first statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Venezuela which
was gifted by the Government of India to Mahatma Gandhi Venezuela. Today also we
started our activities with floral offerings at the statue.
Friends, Mahatma Gandhi is not only the Father of my Nation, but also one of the
most respected global leaders ever. Even many decades after he left us, his philosophy and teachings still remain relevant for us not only to reflect, but also to practice.
We had the chance to review the various activities of Centro Gandhi and today we
will be interacting with some of those who have got a Diploma from Centro Gandhi. A
discussion on the various aspects of Gandhiji’s philosophy is always refreshing and
reinforces the great values of human existence i.e., peace and harmony.
Gandhiji’s philosophy was deeply rooted in the cultural ethos of India. His ideals
were progressive and forward looking and set the stage for building up of a strong, truly
democratic polity for the country coming out of centuries of colonialism. While it is
known that colonialism led to unprecedented destruction of our economic resources, it
should also be recalled that it did not succeed in suppressing our determination to have a
society which will become an ideal for many countries around the world. Perhaps more
than anyone else, the Father of my Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, laid the foundation of the
peaceful coexistence of various people of various faiths, which became symbolic of what
we call as ‘Unity in Diversity’.
Friends, we are very encouraged by the fact that Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy generates
interest amongst all generations as this is intrinsically structured to connect with the most
universal of all ideals i.e., Unity and Brotherhood of entire humanity.
Gandhiji’s contribution to the philosophy of non-violence or Ahimsa is well known
along with his emphasis on an egalitarian society based on gender equality. He was also
very concerned about the development of country’s capacity and put special emphasis on
the philosophy of self-reliance. While we are celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and
have entered the phase of Amrit Kal, the continued resonance of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ –
a self-reliant India is deeply rooted in the philosophy of Gandhiji. India has not only used
its policies in various fields for the benefit of its people, but also for the entire world.
During the time of Covid pandemic, India has come out as a shining example of what one
country should do for fellow brothers and sisters around the world. Under the visionary
leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Government of India undertook
perhaps the largest ever exercise in contribution to global public health by supplying Covid
vaccines around the world as part of ‘Vaccine Maitri’ and also Covid-related medicines
during the various phases of the Covid pandemic.
Friends, today is the day of celebrations. It is also a day of reflection of the core
values of Gandhiji’s philosophy. In addition, it is also a day to rededicate ourselves to
pursue the ideals of peace and harmony for which Mahatma Gandhi gave his whole life. I
would once again like to thank Mahatma Gandhi Venezuela and Centro Gandhi for
organizing today’s event and all the participants for their enthusiastic participation, which
has made this special day a day to remember.
